SouthLight Healthcare is a non-profit organization providing top quality care for substance use and mental health disorders as vital components of whole person care in the communities we serve. We have proudly served the Triangle area and beyond since 1970.

We are looking to fill several full-time and part-time Peer Site Monitor shifts. Including;

Monday - Friday 4:45 am - 1:00 pm

Monday - Thursday 1:00 pm - 9 pm

Friday 4:45 am - 5:00 pm

Saturdays 4:45 am - 1:00 pm

Sundays 4:45 am - 10 am

POSITION SUMMARY

The Site Monitor serves as an ambassador of SouthLight's values and contributes to the oversight of a safe recovery environment that ensures the respect and dignity of all using a recovery coaching approach. The Site Monitor will have a working knowledge of de-escalation techniques and incorporates Motivational Interviewing techniques to provide positive engagement with clients on various site locations.  The Site Monitor will demonstrate non-violent, verbal, de-escalation skills at all times to ensure safety of clients, staff, and facility. Additionally, this position will assist clients in navigating services as well as collaborating with others to facilitate appropriate interventions, as warranted. The Site Monitor will work to help create and maintain systems that foster a safe, respectful therapeutic environment.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

GENERAL:

  • Provide a welcoming environment for clients on site and acts in accordance with SouthLight's mission and values throughout all interactions
  • Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness
  • Guide and encourage beneficiaries to take responsibility for and actively participate in their own recovery
  • Assist clients with the identification and self-management of symptoms
  • Recognize and assess emergency situations, notifies supervisor of actual or potential crises, exercises judgement and responds quickly and calmly during crisis.  Demonstrates teamwork during emergencies.
  • Use problem solving methods and critical thinking to continuously improve operations.

 

MONITORING & SAFETY

  • The Site Monitor will perform interior and exterior foot patrol rounds, during which safety and security checks will be performed and recorded.
  • The Site Monitor will enforce site-specific rules; i.e., loitering, smoking, etc.
  • Collaborate with onsite security officer, police department, and security committee.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation and/or daily shift reports.
  • Maintain and observe all HIPPA and Substance Use confidentiality regulations as applicable.
  • The Site Monitor will respond to door lock/unlock requests and deliveries as required by building management.
  • Along with the SouthLight Safety Marshal, the Site Monitor will perform monthly, quarterly and annual alarm drills, including but not limited to Fire Drills, Bomb Threat Drills, Threat of Violence Drills, Natural Emergency Drills, and Emergency Evacuation Drills etc., as directed by site management.
  • The Site Monitor will look for and identify and report facility maintenance issues in need of repair, such as cracked doors and windows, landscape damage, debris on the property, burned out exterior lights and signs of vandalism and/or graffiti.
  • Site Monitor will follow site closing procedures and lock all doors and arm all security alarms prior to departing SouthLight at the end of each duty day. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum of 2 years of crisis and de-escalation experience within the adult MH/SA population in a community setting

 

Licensure/Certifications

  • Peer Support Specialist or Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (Peer or Qualified Professional preferred) * mental health/substance use/security experience can be substituted for certification
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, Blood borne Pathogens training, and ADA (provided)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to set clear boundaries
  • Comfortable working with clients or groups of people in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Microsoft Office Suite is helpful
  • Ability to learn other technological recording methods i.e. EMRs/EHRs
  • Ability to work in a team model that changes regularly as needed
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to frequent change in work flow based on need and service structure
  • HIPPA and Behavioral Health specific confidentiality and privacy rights
  • Crisis de-escalation skills
